6 points + One studio hour and one 1-hour lecture per week + Full-year subject + Caulfield + Prerequisites: GDN2180

Objectives On successful completion of this subject students will be able to develop their technical skills in the many media used in contemporary illustration beyond those developed in second year; draw upon their design knowledge and sense of aesthetics when considering composition, layout and form in illustration; develop an illustration concept that clearly communicates an idea, emotion or way of thinking; apply illustration to relevant design problems; understand the practice of illustration through interaction with a professional illustrator and the completion of an actual brief.

Synopsis Advanced projects place illustration as the focus within design and art direction parameters. The projects are related to publishing, packaging, advertising and other design applications. Increased awareness of, media techniques involving black line, limited colour and full colour is combined with conceptual problem solving as the basis of studies.

Assessment Assigned projects: 90% + Journal: 10%
