Painting

30 points + 12 studio hours per week + Full-year subject + Caulfield + Prerequisites: First-year major study or equivalent

Objectives By the completion of this subject students are expected to have demonstrated that they are able to make analytical associations on a conceptual and technical level between their own work and the work of other artists who have worked within a similar tradition, and that this can be articulated; that further investigation has taken place regarding the themes and subject matter to be pursued within their image-making; that the technical and conceptual relationship between painting and drawing has been developed.

Synopsis The aim is to broaden the basic knowledge of painting skills and techniques acquired in first year and to fully develop the creative and expressive potential of the individual. It is expected that students will achieve a sound level of understanding of their own conceptual and expressive strengths in order that they may concentrate on the development of these in subsequent years.
