Objectives On successful completion of this subject students will be able to understand and apply manufacturing technology and technical theory (electronics and applied mechanics) relevant to the design projects taken in DES3002 (Product design 5); and demonstrate their working knowledge of computer graphics in support of product design communications.
Synopsis The subject content includes dimensional (geometric) analyses of engineering product designs; applied mechanics; applied electronics; advanced manufacturing and materials technology; and computer graphics and solid modelling techniques. Students will also gain a detailed knowledge of relevant tool design methods, cost estimating techniques and the main economic and other quality criteria in design.
Assessment Computer graphics assignments: 40% + Applied electronics projects and examination: 20% + Applied mechanics projects and examination: 20% + Manufacturing technology examination: 20%
