Objectives On successful completion of this subject students will be able to demonstrate self-motivated scholarship in the theory and practice of product design at a near professional level; carry out studies of design opportunities in national and international markets; and successfully complete professional design briefs.
Synopsis This subject help students identify a range of conditions, affecting the development of innovative, contemporary marketable products. Design strategies for the entrepreneurial environment are explored. Competence in design practise is expected in external projects involving real clients and industrial conditions. Specialist areas of design involving electro-mechanical and other devices will be incorporated in the total design process. Input from engineering specialists is available.
Assessment Final examination of design portfolios combined with an oral presentation: 70% + Architectural products or transportation design projects: 30%
