Objectives On successful completion of this subject students will be able to employ systematic methods in the design process, including analysis, synthesis and evaluation; plan design strategies to a timeline; locate and use information on materials and manufacturing processes; and successfully carry out design projects in the consumer products field which incorporate the theory and application of electro-mechanical components and devices.
Synopsis This subject develops the theory and practice of product design, product drawing and product graphics through guided exercises as well as self-directed projects. Design briefs and tasks are organised which require novel interpretations of materials and technology in order to realise new products in keeping with aesthetic and functional criteria. Students also study the design process in the context of technology suitable for small to medium manufacturing enterprises.
