Studio practice (glass and architectural ceramics)

36 points + 12 studio hours per week + Full-year subject + Caulfield + Prerequisites: CER1220

Objectives On successful completion of this subject students will be able to formulate ideas for self-expression and individuality; show considerable confidence and self-reliance in the design process; use materials other than glass, where appropriate, for conceptual development; develop an experimental approach to the potential of glass; work confidently and demonstrate considerable manipulative skills in the chosen area of study; understand the contemporary and historical context of glass and the role of the glass artist in the community.

Synopsis This subject will continue to develop an understanding of hot-glass and warm-glass studies, emphasising the relationship between the contemporary craftsperson and the origins of glass craft, thus extending the knowledge of glass gained in CER1220 and encouraging further conceptual development. Students will also be given the opportunity to pursue further studies in an architectural context.
