Synopsis

This unit serves as both an expansion of undergraduate background knowledge and as a preparation for further studies and research. The chosen topics of study will include issues of professional concern such as ethical issues in research and practice, and methodology and statistical techniques appropriate to evaluate various therapeutic interventions and experimental manipulations.

Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

Identify and address ethical issues in professional practice and research;
Determine and apply appropriate research method(s) and data collection techniques;
Determine and apply appropriate statistical techniques and interpret the outcomes
Produce sound research proposals that will generate useful outcomes
Usefully participate in a peer review process to assess research

Workload requirements

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 288 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. A unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
