Description

Organisations and the environments they operate in become increasingly more complex, and information technology has become an indispensable component of the decision making processes that allow us to deal with this complexity. Business analytics use innovative IT techniques to model organisations and to reveal the impact of alternative choices on the quality of service, operational costs, etc. The applications of Business Analytics include strategic planning, market analysis, resource allocation and scheduling, online adaptation and operational control. The business analytics major complements the foundational studies in computer science, with topics on data analysis, decision making, intelligent systems, and decision support systems.

Units

To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Computer Science with a minor or major in business analytics, students must complete the requirements outlined below.

Minor in business analytics

Students complete:

  • FIT1006 Business information analysis or STA1010 Statistical methods for science or ETW1000 Business and economic statistics (Malaysia)
  • FIT2017 Computer models for business decision making or ETW2111 Business data modeling (Malaysia)
  • FIT3003 Business intelligence and data warehousing
  • FIT3080 Intelligent systems or FIT3152 data science

Major in business analytics

Students complete the minor in business analytics (above) and the following:

  • FIT3107 Advanced programming for database applications
  • FIT3152 Data science or FIT3080 Intelligent systems (unit not completed above)

Two of:

  • FIT1010 Introduction to software engineering
  • FIT1043 Introduction to data science
  • FIT2079 Data visualisation
  • FIT2086 Modelling for data analysis
