Notes
The study of art history and theory involves the understanding and analysis of visual culture. Artistic practice is analysed through the lens of cultural theory, political ideology, social change or historical contexts, and considered in relation to other art. In undertaking art history and theory units, students examine a broad range of mediums and movements, from painting to post-modernism. They develop the critical analysis and writing skills that art critics, historians and curators use to create exhibition reviews, catalogue essays, curatorial statements and artist's statements. Art history and theory units help students gain the knowledge used by curators to develop exhibitions.
For the sequence of units required to complete a given course in this area of study, refer to the Handbook entry for the relevant course.
