Synopsis

This unit provides an overview of approaches to the history and theory of interior architecture. The unit will also introduce methods for the written and visual analysis of interior architecture. The unit will investigate dialogues between history, theory and interior architectural design.

Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will:

to demonstrate a basic knowledge of the history and theories of the interior
develop a critical approach to the socio economic, political and cultural contexts of selected interior architecture projects
identify and critique significant interior architecture projects and their contribution to contemporary interior practice
demonstrate a basic understanding of techniques applicable to the visual analysis of interior architecture
inform and integrate design processes with theories of the interior
understand and apply the rules of occupational health and safety appropriate to the discipline practice.
