Synopsis

The unit provides a general survey of women's fiction, ranging across two centuries. It will consistently question and explore the concept of 'the difference of view' and will examine the importance of common historical contexts and of intertextuality for women writers.

Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit students will have:

the ability to assess and interpret the relationship between literary texts and their social and political context
an informed understanding of some key approaches to the study of women's writing
developed an informed critical perspective on the question of gender and literary production
developed an informed critical perspective on the question of gender and literary value
solid advanced undergraduate-level skills in the reading and interpretation of literary texts.
