Cultural Economy Research Project is a capstone unit offered in the Master of Cultural Economy. Students will conduct original research into an aspect of the cultural industries/cultural economies under the supervision of a member of the academic staff. In this unit students will develop, and commence the implementation and reporting of, a research project on an approved topic of their own design. In this 24-point unit, students will complete a Masters Coursework thesis (minor thesis), which may take the form of an extended essay, a critical literature review or a small-scale case study/survey based report. It is expected that the thesis will be theoretically, methodologically and technically sophisticated. This unit is followed by Cultural Economy Research Project B, under which the project will be completed.

On successful completion of the Cultural Economy Research Project A, students will be able to:

  1. Identify, clarify and investigate a problem/topic;
  2. Discuss and apply relevant cultural economy/policy theory;
  3. Locate, analyse and integrate relevant literature.
