In this unit students are required to select one cultural industry and identify a central issue, dynamic or problem. Students are asked to identify cultural businesses or agencies and explore these issues at a deeper empirical level involving fieldwork and data collection. They will be expected to engage in and reflect upon the highly specific contexts and challenges facing contemporary cultural industries. Assessment also includes a reflexive account of their fieldwork.
Upon successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
Students are required to collect data on, make contact with and interview key relevant businesses or agencies as determined by the choice of their project. Observation and dialogue with key industries will comprise the fieldwork and analytical components of the Fieldwork Log assessment.
Cultural industry project plan: 20%
Fieldwork log: 20%
Cultural industry project essay: 60%
Seminar/workshop attendance: 2 hours per week
Seminar/workshop preparation (reading, presentations): 8 hours per week
Library/research: 16 hours per week
