Primary and Secondary

Primary and secondary education courses are recognised by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). Courses approved under the Victorian standards for accreditation will be recognised for the purposes of teacher registration in Victoria and may be recognised by teacher regulatory authorities in other Australian jurisdictions. Courses approved under the national standards for accreditation will be recognised for the purposes of teacher registration in Victoria and by teacher regulatory authorities in all other Australian jurisdictions.

Any initial teacher education student due to complete their course between 1 July 2016 and 31 December 2019 are strongly encouraged to complete the National Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students prior to graduation.

Any initial teacher education student who will complete their course on or after 1 January 2020 will be required to meet the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) teacher registration requirement of achieving the standard in the National Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students prior to being course completed.

Early Childhood and Early Childhood/Primary

Early childhood courses are accredited by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA). Graduates will be qualified to teach in early childhood settings. The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood/Primary) is also accredited by VIT and graduates will be eligible for registration as primary school teachers in the government, Catholic and independent school systems in Australia, and qualified for employment in pre-schools, childcare centres and other children's services and specialist early childhood settings in Victoria. Students wishing to teach outside of Victoria (i.e. interstate or overseas) are advised to check the registration requirements of that area to ensure registration eligibility.
