A student's time at the University is managed by policies and procedures, including (but not limited to) those on the granting of credit and recognition of prior learning, regarding course structures and qualification categories, unit enrolment quotas, assessment and grading, special consideration and discipline including plagiarism, and to facilitate resolution of any academic and administrative complaints and grievances. Monash University's governing legislation and relevant policies are available as outlined below.
Course structures are reviewed from time to time and changes may be made to reflect advances in knowledge or changing employment needs. If the regulations of a course change, students will usually be given the option of continuing with the old regulations or conforming to the new regulations, whichever is best for them.
While faculties will endeavour to give every possible assistance and advice concerning unit choice, it is the student's responsibility to ensure that the units they select and study meet their degree regulations and requirements. Faculties are not responsible for errors in unit selection.
Students should always check that the correct units and other details are recorded in the Web Enrolment System (WES) or on any official University enrolment details and fee statements.
Refer to the Monash University legislation webpage.
The details of all academic policies and procedures relating to educational activities of the university are available in the University Policy Bank. The Policy Bank also contains related policies and procedures about Administration, Information Technology and Research.
PhD and Master of Philosophy students should also consult the graduate research handbooks.
Faculty-based award regulations are based on the University's statutes and are the formal statement of what a student is required to do to successfully complete an award of the University. These regulations are set by the managing faculty for the course and are detailed annually in the course, areas of study and unit entries in the University Handbook. It is a student's responsibility to ensure that they understand and meet the requirements for the course in which they are enrolled. For more on faculty policies refer to the following web sites:
