Synopsis

This clinical placement unit of 10 weeks will allow students to begin developing both their technical and professional skills within the field of Medical Radiation Science. This unit will also provide students with the opportunity to practice infection control, occupational health and safety, radiation safety; communication and administrative skills. Students will demonstrate the characteristics of a beginning reflective practitioner.

Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to:

Apply the principles of anatomy and pathophysiology in the clinical environment;
Use human communication theories when dealing with patients and staff;
Employ clinical departmental protocols for patient identification, preparation and positioning;
Apply the principles of radiation safety to practice;
Apply the principles of infection control and occupational health and safety to practice;
Operate within a multi-disciplinary team;
Demonstrate the characteristics of a beginning reflective practitioner;
Modify patient interactions in light cultural and religious differences;
Implement administrative work practices, including the management of resources.
