Synopsis

This unit and IAR2114 are the key units for developing interior architecture design capabilities. In this unit, the focus is on exposing students to problems which include a variety of interior architectural factors, and applying methodologies to coordinate their analysis and to achieve a holistic integrated design that addresses human needs. The projects are set in a variety of contexts, involving simple construction and structural requirements and basic service issues.

Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students should be able to:

undertake a simple interior architecture project, involving the determination and resolution of user requirements, construction, structuring, servicing, aesthetics;
communicate the design with presentation drawings and models as well as technical documentation;
evaluate the effectiveness of the design methodologies they are applying;
explain the reasoning behind their choice of methodology, media, design options and solutions;
account for the social and cultural content of their design decision-making;
understand and be able to apply the rules of occupational health and safety appropriate to the unit of study.
