SynopsisThis unit is an introduction to the field of social work, its history, theory and knowledge base, ethics, and role in the human services. The application of social work research knowledge in tackling disadvantage is highlighted. ObjectivesAt the conclusion of this unit students should be able to understand and debate the nature of social work, its role and function in society; to begin to critically analyse that role; to understand and debate the role of ethics in social work; and to articulate the role of research in tackling human disadvantage.
