SynopsisThis unit examines the theoretical, conceptual and philosophical foundations and historical underpinnings of psychology. Under the supervision of a member of staff students will complete a major essay that addresses an issue of conceptual and theoretical importance to contemporary psychology. The essay may take a number of forms including: an evaluation of the value of a particular theory or set of theories, the analysis of a problem associated with the criteria used to evaluate theories, the evaluation the adequacy of a particular concept in psychology, or an examination of philosophical issues such as the mind-body problem and theories of explanation.
