DescriptionThe course seeks to develop students' skills in translation to and from English and another language, and their awareness of practical and theoretical approaches to translation and translation studies. The main languages available are Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Spanish. Other languages may be available depending on student numbers. Students will be given a foundation in theories of translation and will also receive training in research on translation studies. ObjectivesStudents completing this course will have:
Professional recognitionStudents in certain language streams, are eligible to be recommended for NAATI accreditation in translation if they meet the required pass level (70 per cent) in the examination component of TRN4050. Semester twoStudents who are enrolling in the Arabic stream will need to have their course of study approved by the course coordinator. Progression to further studiesStudents require a credit average in the graduate diploma program to transfer to course 3921 Master of Interpreting and Translation Studies. Alternative exit(s)After successful completion of 24 points, students may apply to exit the program with course 4041 Graduate Certificate in Translation Studies.
