DescriptionThis course is concerned with both new and traditional communications technologies such as print, film, television and electronic media. It explores the practical operations of mass communications technologies as well as their social and cultural aspects. ObjectivesThe structured nature of the program gives students the option of undertaking a second major to help prepare them for specific vocational opportunities in addition to the skills obtained through the more general learning and teaching objectives of their studies in the humanities and social sciences. StructureThis course consists of major in communications, a first-year sequence in visual culture or film and television studies, an arts minor, and additional arts units to a total value of 144 points. Alternatively, students select a sequence of arts units taught at one of the other campuses of the University. Students who opt for this alternative should note that it will involve travelling to another campus to attend lectures, and close attention will need to be paid to the lecture timetable. RequirementsStudents must complete the following: (a.) a major in communications (48 points) (b.) a first-year sequence in one of:
(c.) a minor in an arts discipline (24 points) (d.) additional arts studies (12 points) Students must complete a total of 96 points from arts. Students complete a minimum of 36 points at a third-year level (across the duration of the degree). No more than 10 units (60 points) are to be completed at a first-year level.
