Synopsis

This unit is concerned with understanding and shaping people's behaviour towards achieving objectives in organizations. It covers key people management theories, examines relevant aspects at the individual, group and organisation levels. It offers an outline of key principles in managing people in a work environment from both behavioural and legal perspectives. Pharmacy related case studies are used throughout the unit to illustrate the practical aspects of the theories presented.

Objectives

At the end of this unit , participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the nature of managerial work and the key theories of management.
  2. Explain individual differences and determinants of employee behaviours and decision making.
  3. Describe the dynamics of a work team.
  4. Outline the processes of, and apply strategies to manage conflict.
  5. Understand the key aspects of an organisation and the interactions of its componenets within.
  6. Apply key principles of human resource management in their work environment.
  7. Understand the legal obligations between employers and employees

Assessment

2 assignments (3000 words) 30% each, 1 assignment (4000 words) 40%
