SYM5045 - Analysing Quantitative Data12 points, SCA Band 2, 0.250 EFTSLPostgraduate Faculty of ArtsLeader: Dharma ArunachalamOfferedCaulfield First semester 2008 (Evening) SynopsisIn this unit the student will be introduced to a conventional quantitative technique known as standardization; and univariate, bivariate and multivariate measures of statistical relationships. Learning of these topics will involve hand-on practice with real survey data. Data analysis will be carried out in SPSS. The main objective is to provide students with the conceptual foundations and basic procedural tools to both design quantitative research projects and to carry out bivariate and multivariate quantitative data analysis in standard statistical packages including SPSS. ObjectivesStudents will learn to design and execute quantitative research based on secondary survey data. Students will gain a sound understanding of how to use SPSS, how to do univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis of categorical survey data in SPSS. The grounding obtained in this unit should enable more competent students to extend their own learning in any areas of specific interest.
