Caulfield First semester 2008 (Day) SynopsisThis unit explores the concept of 'community' and its applications in Australian society; the theory and practice of the various community work models (social planning, community development and social action); the role of community work in social work activities; and the skills involved in the practice of community work. ObjectivesOn completion of this unit students should be able to understand and evaluate different perspectives on the nature of community; understand and evaluate the difference models of community work, their ideological bases and the skills they involve; and apply this knowledge to the practice of community work within social work setting. Interview with community development worker (1000 words): 20% Contact hours2 hours per week PrerequisitesSWK3120 and SWK3180. Social Work units are available only within the context of the Bachelor of Social Work degree, or with permission. |
