Clayton First semester 2008 (Off-campus) SynopsisThe unit addresses sonographic scanning methods, techniques and standard protocols related to examinations of the female pelvis, the scrotum and its contents. The unit is intended to equip students with the interpretational skills in respect to the recognition of the sonographic appearances of normal anatomy, anatomical variants and disease processes associated with the female pelvis, the scrotum and its contents. Students will also develop an appreciation of when to modify standard approaches with regard to the clinical question and patient presentation and recognise the limitations of ultrasound in relation to other medical imaging and laparoscopic examinations of the reproductive system will be examined. The unit will introduce students to the use of ultrasound techniques in respect to the evaluation of the prostate and penis with an emphasis upon the selection of appropriate imaging modes.
