Postgraduate Faculty of Engineering

Leader: M Forsyth

Offered

Clayton First semester 2008 (Off-campus)

Synopsis

Fundamentals of corrosion: free energy of oxidation, oxidation and reduction reactions, Pourbaix diagrams, corrosion kinetics, polarisation curves, passivation. Design against corrosion. Investigating corrision failures. Atmospheric and general corrosion, bimetallic corrosion. Differential aeration corrosion: pitting, corrosion, MIC. Environmentally assisted cracking, erosion. Case studies into corrosion failures, identifying mechanisms and evaluating mitigation strategies.
