MTE3544 - Management and practice in materials engineering6 points, SCA Band 2, 0.125 EFTSLUndergraduate Faculty of EngineeringLeader: P F ThomsonOfferedClayton First semester 2008 (Day) SynopsisStudents learn to understand the interrelationship of innovation and invention, the generation and exploitation of intellectual property. By following the life cycle of manufactured goods, they see environmental effects and follow obsolescence to waste and the recycling chain. Students learn to use aids to decision making, including the identification of likely critical processes. Entering the manufacturing environment, they receive overviews of quality management and quality control, and the relationship between design, manufacture and product life. They glimpse the major forces governing workplace relations and work place conditions in Australia. Objectives
