ObjectivesStudents will develop a thorough understanding of the characteristics and mechanisms of solid-state phase transformations in and their impacts on the performance of engineering alloys; an understanding of the role of dislocations in determining the mechanical properties of metals and alloys; in depth understanding of strengthening mechanisms in metals and alloys; a knowledge of basic principles of microstructural design.
