Synopsis

This unit considers processes and issues involved in travel and tour management. The first half considers the operations of travel agents. The second considers group tours, including the roles of tour designers, tour managers and tour guides.

Objectives

The learning objectives of this unit are to:

  • explain the role of travel agents and tour operators;
  • identify external influences in the travel and tour industry;
  • outline and analyse the importance of image and the role of the media in tourism;
  • analyse tourist communication theory including interpretation and cross-cultural considerations.

Assessment

Within semester assessment: 50%
Examination (3 hours): 50%
