MEC2403 - Mechanics of materials6 points, SCA Band 2, 0.125 EFTSLUndergraduate Faculty of EngineeringLeader: R SinghOffered
Clayton First semester 2008 (Day) SynopsisThis unit introduces second year students to materials available for the fabrication of engineering components and structures. Students will be instructed on fundamentals of solid mechanics and the determination of mechanical properties of materials that are important for engineering design. A systematic approach to materials selection and methods by which the mechanical properties of these materials can be controlled during manufacturing will be covered. Issues relating to the use of dissimilar materials in aqueous environments will be introduced. Case studies will be presented to highlight the importance of selecting appropriate materials for engineering design. Objectives
