Synopsis

This unit has been developed to introduce students to, and examine the legal principles relevant to, the modern workplace which has been affected by changes in information technology and electronic methods of communication.

Provide an in-depth understanding of the contemporary employment and labour law issues pertaining to the workplace in the modern electronic era and to provide a forum for critiques of these issues.

Enable students to resolve problems pertaining to these issues and to be aware of issues relating to law reform.

Objectives

The unit aims to:

  1. introduce students to, and examine the legal principles relevant to, the modern workplace which has been affected by changes in information technology and electronic methods of communication;
  2. provide and in-depth understanding of the contemporary employment and labour law issues pertaining to the workplace in the modern electronic era and to provide a forum for critiques of these issues
  3. enable students to resolve problems pertaining to these issues and to be aware of issues relating to law reform.

Assessment

Class participation - 10%

Take home exam (3,000 words) - 40%

Research assignment (3,750 words) - 50%
