Synopsis
This subject provides an overview and analysis of the development of law and the environment. The subject will cover the historical development of environmental law and how it has been implemented internationally and domestically in Australia with particular emphasis on Victoria. Students will be introduced to international legal responses to major global and transboundary environmental problems and the sources of international and domestic environmental laws. Attention will be given to the American, Commonwealth and Victorian impact assessment procedures, pollution control through the system of licensing and the role of the Courts and Tribunals in the implementation of environmental laws.
Assessment
One research assignment: 50% and One final examination: 50%
