Berwick First semester 2008 (Day) SynopsisThe unit introduces students to the principles and practice of copyediting for various print media. Topics include aspects of grammar, house-style, technical conventions of the English language, editing and proof-reading symbols, structural editing, the role of the editor in the publishing process, publishing conventions, legal issues such as copyright, and page design and layout. The unit refines students' own writing skills and self-editing skills for non fiction forms and prepares them for the responsibilities associated with the editorial workplace. Students studying by off-campus learning will need access to a computer and the Internet. Objectives
