Clayton Second semester 2008 (Day) SynopsisThe subject will cover in depth the fundamental protocols used to operate the Internet and intranets, and a selection of major application systems, including specific implementations of the protocols and systems. Typical topics covered in this subject are listed as follows. Advanced Internet Addressing: IPv4 to IPv6 migration, subnetting, supernetting TCP Performance and Enhancements: Reno, New-Reno, Fast Retransmit and Recovery, etc. Unicast and multicast routing protocols: BGP4, OSPF, MOSPF, DVMRP, etc. Multicasting: IGMP. Messaging systems: SMTP, MIME, POP3, IMAP, World Wide Web systems : client-server implementations, HTTP, Real Time Protocols: RTP, RTCP, RTSP, RSVP Security issues: VPNs, Firewall systems. Quality of Service issues: QoS Models, DiffServ and IntServ. Network management issues: mobile IP management, SNMP, SNMP2. Directories: DNS, X.500, LDAP.
