Clayton First semester 2008 (Day) SynopsisResearch based intellectual, academic, personality, and psychopathology assessment of children from pre-school age to adulthood. Practice in the administration, scoring and interpretation of a range of psychological tests. Limitations of such tests. How to report findings. Relevant cultural, ethical and professional issues. ObjectivesUpon successful completion of this unit, students should be able to understand the current research literature on psychological testing, and demonstrate knowledge of the professional ethical, cultural and psychometric issues which arise when assessing and reporting on the intellectual and academic abilities, personality and psychopathology of individuals across the lifespan; knowledge of basics of psychological test construction; initial skills in administration and scoring of intelligence tests, psychopathology and personality instruments, behavioural checklists and tests of academic attainment suitable for use with individuals and groups across the lifespan; basic skills in the administration and scoring of tests for individuals with sensory and neurological deficits; an ability to select appropriate means of assessment for individuals of different ages and deficits and to report their conclusions accurately and concisely.
