Singapore Term 2 2008 (Off-campus) SynopsisThis unit will examine social, political, and economic factors and the relationships between these factors and families in particular cultural contexts. While Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory has been the traditional theoretical conceptual tool for analysis and understanding of these factors, socio-cultural theories build on these ideas to provide a more complex picture of the relations between individual and cultural processes. The professional's response to the dynamic and complex processes involved in family socialisation and to the recognition that families are active participants in the socialisation processes will be examined.
