EDF2618 - Dance in education6 points, SCA Band 1, 0.125 EFTSLUndergraduate Faculty of EducationLeader: Ms R BennettOfferedPeninsula Second semester 2008 (Day) SynopsisStudents will develop: a rationale of education through the arts and the place of dance in arts education; processes common to the arts including creating/making and presenting, arts criticism and aesthetics, past and present contexts and other aspects of dance curriculum such as devising dance lessons and safe dance practice. Practical experience in dance is a major part of the unit. ObjectivesUpon successful completion of this unit, students should have an understanding of the nature of dance in education and its place in major curriculum and Arts documents; have a basic knowledge of the available resources that can help with ideas, and the range of stimulus materials that can be used in a dance program; have examined the common elements of the arts and the unique qualities of dance; be able to observe and analyse the movement of others; be able to articulate a rationale for the inclusion of dance in the school curriculum; display a commitment to the process of dance education.
