EDF2501 - Child development 3: child health and safety6 points, SCA Band 0, 0.125 EFTSLUndergraduate Faculty of EducationLeader: J AgbenyegaOfferedPeninsula First semester 2008 (Day) SynopsisIn this unit the principles, practices and issues relating to health, safety and nutrition in children's services will be examined. Legal and quality assurance requirements, social and cultural contexts. Issues associated with hospitalisation for young children will be considered. Students will examine the environmental, resource and staffing implications in the maintenance of high quality health, safety and nutrition standards in children's services. ObjectivesAs a result of studying this unit students are expected to understand the principles of health and safety routines and management in early childhood settings; understand the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles for themselves and the children they work with in preschool or childcare settings; interpret the Victorian Children's Services Regulations 1998 and the Children's Services Act 1996 as they relate to health and safety routines and practices; reflect on the implications of child health and safety issues in early childhood educational and care settings.
