Gippsland First semester 2008 (Day) SynopsisThis unit will examine theories of child development and will consider patterns or regularities in development across culture. The cultural nature of development will be considered in relation to teaching and learning. Planning, observing and assessing in the early and middle childhood years will be examined. ObjectivesUpon successful completion of this unit, students should have knowledge and understanding of the main theories and contemporary issues of child development; the diversity of human growth and development; a range of learning theories; the likely impact of culture, family, genetic inheritance and life experiences on development; their own abilities, attitudes, and values; implications for curriculum, planning and assessment.
