This unit is made up of three modules: Classroom Management and Planning, Learning Technologies across the Curriculum (LTAC) and Assessment and Reporting. Module One is designed to provide students with the knowledge to enable them to plan appropriate learning and teaching experiences. Module Two focuses on two main areas: the acquisition of technology skills and their integration into the classroom. Module Three is designed to provide students with the knowledge and commitment necessary to ensure inclusive assessment and reporting practices and to understand the interaction between assessment, learning, curriculum and accountability.
Upon successful completion of this unit students should be able to keep carefully written records of planning and preparation for teaching lessons; critically reflect on their teaching, personal beliefs, values and experiences about communication, planning for learning, management and assessment; develop an ability to apply sound teaching principles, concepts, strategies and methods across the P-6 curriculum drawing on a range of learning theories and principles; effectively plan and display the required competencies in ICTE activities; act professionally in their behaviour and manner while demonstrating acceptable standards of communication and professionally in their behaviour and manner while demonstrating acceptable standards of communication and professional responsibility in the primary school setting; demonstrate competencies in classroom management techniques and have a strong understanding of the assessment processes required for classroom teachers; understanding of the role of effective communication in the educational environment.
