Synopsis
Philosophy, principles and practices of outdoor adventure and recreation pursuits. Studies include an awareness of the profession, delivery styles, tools and settings. Practical skills at the introductory level include bushwalking and camp craft. A particular emphasis is placed on attaining navigation, camp craft and environmental interpretation competencies. The unit includes eight days of field programs.
Objectives
Upon successful completion of this unit,
students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the influences in the development of outdoor recreation; articulate an overview of outdoor recreation pursuits; demonstrate competencies and an understanding of the current practices in bushwalking , navigation and campcraft; articulate an awareness of the safety requirements and minimal environmental impact practices for recreational activities in the outdoors.
Assessment
Class test: 40%
Assignment (1200 words): 30%
Practical Performance Assessment: 30%. Satisfactory completion of the field programs is compulsory.
