Singapore Term 4 2008 (Off-campus) SynopsisThis unit aims to provide students with a comprehensive awareness of the theoretical and practical aspects of the role of music in promoting learning and well being within early childhood education. Students will explore the use of singing, instruments and musical repertoire. In addition, they will develop a folio of resources. ObjectivesThe broad aims of this unit are for you to demonstrate evidence of: - developing knowledge and understanding of how young children develop musically from pre-birth until the age of 8; - developing a theoretical understanding of music learning and teaching theories appropriate to the age group; - confidently being able to assess, plan, prepare and implement appropriate experiences in a range of early childhood settings; - being able to implement a framework to observe, assess and document musical experiences in early childhood settings; - understanding the importance of why children should compose as well as provide students with the opportunity to compose their own music; - possessing the skills, knowledge and understanding of relevant repertoire for children in their early years.
