Capital cost targeting: area; number of units and capital cost targets; capital energy trade-offs. Pinch design principles and methods: grid diagram; CP rules; design for maximum energy recovery. Automated design: block decomposition; network pinch for retrofit; topology changes to overcome the network pinch. Integration of heat engines and heat pumps: use of the grand composite curve for sizing cycles. Integration of reactors and separators: distillation columns and evaporators. Process changes: plus-minus principle. Extraction of data from process flowsheets.
