CHE4164 - Integrated industrial training24 points, SCA Band 2, 0.500 EFTSLUndergraduate Faculty of EngineeringLeader: M Rhodes, K Hapgood, W BatchelorOfferedClayton First semester 2008 (Day) SynopsisThis unit offers students the opportunity to work in-depth on a significant project, gain first-hand experience of professional practice in industry, applying skills and knowledge gained to date to a real life situation and study new topics in an industrial context. Projects are set up by the industrial partner and academic supervisor, and include tackling open-ended industrial problems, project management, particle technology, process safety and process economics. ObjectivesDevelop an understanding of professional industrial practice and an understanding of the application of chemical engineering science in an industrial setting. Analyse an open ended industrial problem and develop a practical approach. Critically analyse data and develop a new theory or conclusion. Develop interpersonal, oral presentation and technical report writing skills, Develop an understanding of the principles of management, process economics, process safety and the ability to apply these skills in an industrial setting. Develop an understanding of particle technology and the skills necessary for solving engineering problems related to design and operation unit operations involving particles and powders. Assessment
