Synopsis

Multinational firm and economic globalisation; foreign direct investment; political risk; foreign exchange market mechanism; currency options; foreign exchange exposure; cost of capital and capital structure for multinational firms; multinational capital budgeting; international portfolio diversification; multinational cash management; managing receivables and inventories; transfer pricing and international tax strategies.

Objectives

The learning objectives of this unit are to:

  • discuss financial management concepts for a multinational firm;
  • explain how markets can be used to hedge foreign exchange exposures;
  • apply capital budgeting techniques in the context of a multinational firm;
  • apply critical thinking, problem solving and presentation skills to individual and/or group activities dealing with international financial management.

Within semester assessment: 40%
Examination (2 hours): 60%
