Professional recognition of courses - Faculty of Engineering

Australian accreditation

The following courses are accredited for the purpose of admission to membership of Engineers Australia:

Bachelor of Engineering courses at all campuses
Engineering double-degree courses
Bachelor of Computer Systems Engineering
Bachelor of Environmental Engineering.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Technology (Computer Studies) are eligible for Affiliate-Technologist membership of Engineers Australia.

The following courses have been granted provisional accreditation by Engineers Australia pending first graduations:

Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Technology (Aerospace)
Bachelor of Telecommunications Engineering
Bachelor of Technology (Infrastructure - Design, Construction and Management).

The following courses have been designed to meet the accreditation requirements of Engineers Australia, but have not as yet received accreditation:

Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering and the Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering single and double-degree programs
Bachelor of Biomedical Science/Bachelor of Engineering
Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science.

The following courses are also accredited at the professional level by the Australian Computer Society:

Bachelor of Computer Systems Engineering
Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering) including the engineering double-degrees at Clayton
Bachelor of Telecommunications Engineering
Bachelor of Technology (Computer Studies).

International accreditation

The Bachelor of Engineering courses offered at Sunway are also accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Council of Malaysia (EAC), to comply with Malaysian expectations. The EAC consists of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), the Institution of Engineers Malaysia, Lembaga Akreditasi Negara (LAN) and Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam Malaysia (JPA). Graduates of a Malaysian accredited, or BEM internationally recognised engineering programme, satisfy the minimum academic requirements for registration as a graduate engineer with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia.

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (UK) has accredited the Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical), Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical)/Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical), Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical)/Bachelor of Laws, and Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) as equivalent to the MEng degree from a recognised UK university.

Vacation work/industrial experience

In order to fulfil the requirements of the various degree regulations and Engineers Australia, all undergraduate engineering students enrolled in four, five and six year single and double-degree programs must complete 12 weeks of approved engineering work experience and submit a report on that work. Such work is normally undertaken in the vacations between second and third years and/or between third and fourth years (but may also be taken between first and second years). Students who have completed all academic requirements for their degrees are not eligible to graduate until this work experience has been completed and a satisfactory report submitted.
