Politics - Faculty of ArtsOffered by the School of Political and Social Inquiry Politics is a field of study that focuses upon the way people live in association, addressing in particular the institutions, practices and cultural meanings of public and private expressions of power. It examines basic questions about the nature of polities and communities, and how they are organised. The politics discipline takes an analytical rather than simply descriptive approach to the area attempting to explain why and how things happen politically. Politics staff are active researchers. Supervision of PhD and Master of Arts by research is available in a wide range of sub-fields, including specialisations in the nature and implications of globalisation, social and political theory, contemporary political cultures and Australian politics. Politics also has active programs in international relations and counter-terrorism studies (listed separately).
