Course description

This course has been designed in response to the growing market demand for counselling knowledge and skills from professional people working in a range of education, community and service-related industries. It provides a pathway into the Master in Counselling degree. The Graduate Certificate in Counselling programme is specifically designed for students requiring introductory counselling and assessment knowledge skills as an adjunct to their professional work and/or to prepare students for further studies in counselling. The Graduate Certificate in Counselling is a 24 point program.

Course Objectives

The general aims of the Graduate Certificate in Counselling programme is to introduce students to current issues and approaches to counselling and assessment and provide a theoretical and practical base from which students can pursue further counselling studies.

Course structure

The program comprises two 12-point coursework units, giving a total of 24 points. Units offered are:

  • EDF6530 Introduction to counselling across the lifespan
  • EDF6532 Assessment in counselling
