Course description

This pharmacy pre-registration course is designed to assist pharmacy graduates with the transition from student to independent, competent pharmacy professional. It helps pre-registrants build upon the knowledge and skills gained as an undergraduate and apply these in their practice as a pharmacist.

The course enhances problem-solving and pharmacy practice skills as it explores relevant professional issues through pharmacist-moderated online discussion forums, seminars (lectures and tutorials) and computer-assisted learning packages.

The course is approved by the Pharmacy Board of Victoria as a pharmacy pre-registration training program.

Mid-year entry is available.

Course structure

Students are required to complete the following two core units, commencing in mid January and finishing in late September:

  • VCP5011 Applied pharmacy practice I
  • VCP5012 Applied pharmacy practice II

The units are comprised of online case-based discussions, led by moderators who are practicing pharmacists, and seminars. There are four 2-day seminars each year, including lectures and small group tutorials. Students will also complete computer-assisted learning packages in pharmacy calculations and law, and a Continuing Professional Development requirement, which includes participation in the National Prescribing Service self-audits and case studies.

Detailed guides for the online discussions are provided to the pre-registrant's workplace preceptor, to enable the preceptor's involvement in the program.

This is a non-award program.

Assessment is by seminar attendance, online discussion group participation, online quizzes, and submission of a record of Continuing Professional Development.
