Course description

This course offers a program of education in the discipline and practice of fine art and provides students with the opportunity to intensively study an area of specialisation of their own choice.

Course objectives

Students who complete the honours degree of the Bachelor of Fine Art will, in addition to having met the objectives of the pass degree, have acquired: the capability to practice at a professional level in their studio medium; an understanding of research issues and concepts and their application in the fine arts; an advanced understanding of the discipline of the fine arts and the ability to position their studio practice critically within it.

Course structure

The course consists of the following:

(a) Fine art studio projects (30 points)

(b) Honours level research studies (12 points)

(c) elective (6 points)

(d) Occupational health and safety (0 points), if not previously passed or exempted.

Course requirements

First semester

  • FNA4001 Fine art project studies (12 points)
  • OHS1000 Introduction to art and design health and safety (0 points) - if required
  • TAD4503 Research methods in art and design (6 points)
  • Elective (6 points)

Second semester

  • FNA4002 Fine art major project (18 points)
  • TAD4504 Research seminar in art and design (6 points)
